I've always loved Noir film and books. I've always loved mysteries. I believe Raymond Chandler is a great American writer. I had to wind up writing mysteries. It was always in the cards.
In April of 2013, Sam Russo, Private Eye, arrived in not one, but three
books of noir hard-boiled mystery. "Shadow Roll,"
"Good Dog, Bad Dog," and "The Girl in the Next Room," are all available now.

CASE 1
|
|
|
1948. Sam Russo, self-named and self-styled, would follow in
the hard-boiled footsteps of Sam Spade, if he was
hard-boiled. Up to his hocks in the murders of three young
jockeys with both local cops and the track turning a blind
eye, Sam is a closer. He's coming home if it kills him. Race
horses, a gorgeous sassy dame, the Season at Saratoga, what
more could a PI want?
To survive it.

CASE 2
|
|
|
Sam Russo's first case brought him two good things: Jane, a
yodeling dog, and Mrs. Willingford, a rich and sassy dame.
Now back home in his crummy Staten Island room, all he wants
is to relax, read books, and go to the movies. Fat chance.
One knock on the door and he and Jane are careening down
Broadway, in and out of one hit show after another, in hot
pursuit of a giant killer.

CASE 3
|
|
|
Holly lives in the shabby room next to Sam's. She's a man.
He's a woman. Sam doesn't care. He likes Holly. His dog Jane
likes Holly. Life is fine until a Lagonda rolls through
Stapleton. Getting into that car, Holly's just turned the
worst trick of her life. When Holly disappears, Russo and
Jane find themselves lost in a sordid world of hidden
mansions, a twisted social club, and high society secrets.

CASE 4
|
|
|
Sam Russo's been shot, sapped, and slapped around. Jane's
had it worse. Time to lie low. So what happens? Mrs.
Willingford, who else? Sam and Jane and Holly are sailing on
the Willingford yacht whether Sam likes it or not. What Mrs.
Willingford wants, Mrs. Willingford gets. What Mrs.
Willingford doesn't want is a starlet taking a high dive off
her yacht, a body stuffed in a closet, and Jane gone missing
far from land.

I write. It's what I do. It's who I am.
I've written all my life. At four, I produced my first book. Five
pages—written, illustrated, and sewn together by me—I called
it THE RED PONY. At four, I had no idea Steinbeck got there first. Then came a long long loooong break during
which I did anything and everything but write. Looking back, I now see
that break as the life I needed to live in order to be the writer I
hoped I could be. I'm not that writer. But there's still time and I still keep trying.
I used to live in Marin County, California. I used to live in Hawaii.
I used to live in New York City. I used to live in Europe. I used to
live in Vermont. Now I travel about and while I travel I write.
Following on after creating my own Mary Magdalene in The Secret
Magdalene, I wrote Flow Down Like Silver, a novel about the numinous and gifted
Hypatia of Alexandria, a tragically ignored woman
of towering intellect who searched through intellect for what the
Magdalene knew in her heart.
A few months after Hypatia flowed out into the world, I realized that
the ancient Goddess and I were not done with each other, that I'd merely
presented part of Her story by speaking of two women who, in the flesh,
represented Her profound role in the world.
The Woman Who Knew the All, my third and last book on the
Divine
Feminine, takes us back to the life of Mariamne, called the
Magdalene.
Wandering the world after the death of Jesus, she, her great
friend
Seth, and Mary the Mother of Jesus share the wisdom of their
beloved
teacher. Mariamne confronts ignorance and superstition as
she herself
slowly awakens to the ALL.
At the same time, I took a huge left turn—you might even call it a "bend
sinister"—into the murky half light of fantasy and horror. The strange
tale of Houdini Heart had been
sneaking about in my psyche for years. It, too, wanted out.
And then along came SAM RUSSO, PRIVATE EYE. See above!
